Miami House Music

W.E.R.X

Miami's house music scene began to take shape in the 1980s, influenced by the vibrant Latin and Caribbean culture of the city. The blend of disco, funk, and electronic music resonated with Miami’s diverse population, creating a unique sound. The Miami Sound Machine, led by Gloria Estefan, brought international attention to the city's musical prowess, although they were more aligned with pop and Latin music than house. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, Miami became a pivotal city for the emerging house music scene. Clubs like the Cameo and the legendary Winter Music Conference (WMC), which started in 1985, were instrumental in bringing together DJs, producers, and fans from around the world. The WMC became an annual pilgrimage for those in the house music industry, fostering connections and showcasing new talent.

In recent years, Miami's house music scene has continued to thrive and evolve. The city has produced renowned DJs and producers like Cedric Gervais, Oscar G, and Murk (aka Funky Green Dogs). Clubs such as Space, LIV, and Story are famed for their vibrant atmospheres and cutting-edge music, hosting top-tier house and techno acts regularly. The influence of Latin and Caribbean music remains strong, with genres like reggaeton and moombahton often blending with house beats. The annual Miami Music Week, which includes the Winter Music Conference and Ultra Music Festival, continues to draw crowds from around the globe, featuring an eclectic mix of house, techno, and other electronic music genres.
